SONY SL-C9 Betamax display DC/DC convertor (1-464-217-21)
Always fiddly to repair, and often with snapped transformer windings, making the original non serviceable.
A recent replacement became available from Europe, which on testing was running extremely hot and giving out dangerously high voltages, which would quickly plate the original VFD (being excessive DC voltage). It was only available for a short time, perhaps due to displays being killed? It was also well over £120 after postage and duty.
A new design made in England is now in production, available exclusively from deadAVstore which is suitable for all Sony C9 Betamax models and variants (UK, Europe, USA, etc).
It's almost half price of the previously available model, and much safer for your machine. It fits in the same position as the original DC-DC converter, and requires soldering in place (after removing your original). Therefore, this unit is ONLY suitable for hobbyists who can safely take their machine to pieces, and fit this module.
Please note, with the shutting down of analogue transmitters in the UK and most parts of the world, this module doesn’t supply the +38v needed to power the internal tuner. This is because you can no longer receive analogue TV signals, and the likelihood of anyone still recording onto Betamax format via the ariel socket being extremely small! This module will supply suitable voltages to make your clock display operate, but will not repair a damaged or broken vacuum fluorescent display.
We offer a fitting service if you send us your machine. Please enquire for details.
