Sony U-Matic Video Recorder VO-2631 - (1970's)

£119.95

This is for one not working U-Matic video recorder. It is one of the earliest machines Sony released in the U-Matic guise, from the mid to late 1970’s.

We plugged the unit in, and It lights up. You can hear a motor spinning. The carriage wont eject. I would assume this has been sitting a LONG time, and it doesn’t look to have been fiddled with. The mechanism will no doubt require cleaning and degreasing, which is now a common issue with all these old VCRs. Once belts are checked, changed and the mechanism freed off (if required), then it stands a better chance of working.

.

Collection is advised from Chesterfield, Derbyshire, as it weighs OVER 30kg, and could be damaged in transit.

Postage CAN be arranged, but this would most likely be hand delivered by me - so please contact for a quote, which will depend on your location.

.

We have a number of U-Matic machines breaking for parts. Some are complete and working and some have faults. We also repair U-Matic machines. Please enquire for details.

U-Matic is an analogue recording videocassette format first shown by Sony in prototype in October 1969, and introduced to the market in September 1971. It was among the first video formats to contain the videotape inside a cassette, as opposed to the various reel-to-reel or open-reel formats of the time. The videotape is 3⁄4 in (19 mm) wide, so the format is often known as "three-quarter-inch" or simply "three-quarter", compared to open reel videotape formats in use, such as 1 in (25 mm) type C videotape and 2 in (51 mm) quadruplex videotape. Unlike most other cassette-based tape formats, the supply and take-up reels in the cassette turn in opposite directions during playback, fast-forward, and rewind: one reel would run clockwise while the other would run counter-clockwise.
